Pamporovo
Pamporovo is a popular ski resort in southern Bulgaria. The resort is located in the Rhodope Mountain at the foot of p.Snezhanka at an altitude of 1620 m. Pamporovo is around 260 km southeast from Sofia, 85 km south from Plovdiv and 15 km north from Smolyan. 150 snowy days per year and continuous sunlight are some of the advantages of that popular resort located amidst centuries-old forests.
Few ski-tracks start from p.Snezhanka and lead towards the resort and the lakes of Smolyan area. The total lenght of the ski-tracks is 67 km (37 km alpine skiing and 30 km biathlon). The ski centre offers tracks with different difficulty from beginner through intermediate to professional. The different facilities in the complex have total capacity of 11 600 people per hour. Here skiers and snowboarders can have fun from the end of November to the end of April. There are more than 150 snowy days per year with snow cover more than 2 m thick. Every year different national and international competitions are carried out here, such as ski, cross-country skiing, biathlon etc. On Snezhanka 1 ski-track, the local snowboard club "Snowboard society" had 150 m long with 3 m high walls "half-pipe" track build up. The best local "freestyle" competitions are carried out here.
Found in 1933 Pamporovo grows quickly during the years. Many shops, restaurants, coffee shops, shopping centres, night clubs and other facilities were build here. Liked mostly for his clear air and beautiful scenery, during the summer Pamporovo attracts the nature lovers too. Some hotels offer packages combining holiday with healthy rehabilitation and weight loss under competent medical supervision. Here you can also find covered and heated swimming pools, bowling alleys, bow shooting ranges, mountain bike cross country tracks and many more. In the vicinity of Pamporovo you can find some of the prettiest villages in the Rhodopes - Stoykite (5 km), the historical village Shiroka laka (10 km), Gela (17 km), Progled (3 km), Momchilovtszi (17 km). 10 km to the nord is the town of Chepelare. 21 km to the west is the town of Devin - well known with its many thermal springs, natural beauty and excellent hotel base.
